From the exhibition text:
When we reach for what we need, we may find happiness. When we reach for what we want, we hear the nuts and bolts of the universe begin to rattle. This is why we cannot escape the appeal of OBSESSION.
The tattooed figures in my paintings are, to me, sculptures with a nervous system. They exist in a condition that is unmistakably human – alive with impulse, tension, and vulnerability. They appear in different states of OBSESSION. As do we. The wise man seeks detachment and tranquility. The fool seeks OBSESSION. He yields to it, and each time it ruins him. Beyond every OBSESSION another one awaits. And so the fool dies a thousand deaths, only to resurrect with the sunrise.
OBSESSION is killing us. We die daily, and yet we are born again. Perhaps that is preciselywhat we need.
